Make Theory Into Reality with Transformational Practice & Guided Exploration

Transformational Practice Groups

The Transformational Practice Groups offer a safe, often enjoyable and mutually supportive context in which to explore, apply, and practice the theory and methods of the WisdomPsych model, as well as form precious healing and growth-supporting connections with others

Nature of Transformation Practice Groups

Much of our lives occurs in the context of human relating, and self-discovery, transformation, healing, & growth also occur within and are facilitated in the context of human interactions, and these powers are often magnified in group fields. There is a vast wealth of evidence attesting to this. Here we harness power of groups to evoke, deeply experience, & integrate optimal transformative experience. Equipping participants with various methods completes the process of true learning by translating theory into practical application and integration, and enables one to have these in their life-skills tool kit for ongoing use as is needed.

What to Expect

Group sizes can range from anywhere from eight to forty participants. The sessions last anywhere from ninety minutes to two hours. The typical format of our practice groups are as follows: We begin a warm-up activity or exercise, frequently in groups of 2-4 people (lasting anywhere from 20-30 minutes). Then we gather in the large group for a didactic session (a structured learning session focused on teaching specific knowledge or skills through direct instruction, such as lectures, lessons, or presentations), roughly 30-40 minutes in length. Then we do a deeper-dive in the form of an applied exercise or practice, again in groups of 2-4 people. This lasts for roughly 30 or so minutes. Then we return again into the large group to share or ask questions.

Topics Covered

The practice groups typically last for 6-weeks (one meeting a week), and frequently focus on a particular aspect or “domain” of the WisdomPsych (interdisciplinary model of inner transformational work). For more on this see these articles. For instance, one 6-week practice group may focus heavily on the theory and methodology of how to enter into and explore inner experience, in the context of inner transformational work. We may focus on the nature of experience and how to enter into experience, a mapping and experiential deep-dive into the structures and dynamics of the organization of experience and personality, and various methods of how to open up and ride the unfolding of experience in ways that seek to optimally cooperate with its revelatory-transformative powers. Another 6-week practice group may focus heavily on the nature and dynamics of intimate relationship. Yet another may focus on various themes core to wisdom (e.g., ethics, perspective, meditation, contemplation, existential psychology, and the like). Yet another might focus on the dynamic aspect of life, exploring themes of expansion, purpose, aliveness, passion, creativity, expression and the like. And, so on.

Commonly Cited Benefits

Perhaps the most glaring and striking thing about such groups is how, when someone does a piece of inner exploration or work in the context of such a group (a cohesive & activated group field), there can sometimes be an astonishing rapidity with which long-standing buried material or inherent potentialities, innate resources, and strengths can surface into conscious awareness. It is as if there is some mysterious quickening of inner process such that quite powerful, quantum shifts (profound, sometimes life-changing revelations and transformations) can happen in very short periods of time. Of course, the value of practices groups also lays with its emphasis on practice; that is to say, how one might also integrate or consolidate the gains of those openings. There are a myriad of other cited benefits of participating in such groups (e.g., learning and personal growth, emotional support, gaining practical life skills, empowerment, community and connection, inner healing, broadening the range of experience & scope of possibility, and not least, enjoyment).
